Before the war, he earned a good reputation as aa miniaurist painter by sketching genre scenes and illustrating Alsatian legends. Wrapped and hidden behind the walls of his apartment because of the risks they represented for him and his wife Rosa, the paintings from the Salon des Rêves were later exhibited. They were dispersed after the death of his widow in 1981.
