PAIR OF LARGE 1970'S ITALIAN HAMMERED SILVERPLATE OVAL VASQUES

A striking pair of large hammered silver-plate oval vasques or wine coolers, probably made in India during the 1970s.

Raised on broad rounded bodies with deeply hand-worked hammered surfaces, each piece is finished with a sculptural asymmetric flared rim and distinctive applied rope-twist decoration to the upper body. The silver plate has worn beautifully with age, revealing warm copper tones beneath and creating a richly textured surface throughout.

Decorative and highly versatile, they work equally well as champagne coolers, floral jardinieres or statement centrepieces. Their sculptural form and weathered finish sit particularly well within layered contemporary interiors, from country house to modern rustic schemes.
