A charming pair of 19th Century French wrought iron rats de cave, traditionally used as portable cellar lights.

The internal candle holder can be raised or lowered by means of the side knob. Hand-forged with spiral stems terminating in hanging hooks above tripod scroll feet, each retaining its rich, time-worn surface and distinctive blacksmith-made character. The elegant corkscrew-form shafts and robust forged construction are typical of provincial French ironwork, combining practical function with sculptural appeal.

Designed to stand on a surface or hang from a beam. wine barrel or rack, these atmospheric objects now make striking decorative accents, equally suited to a fireplace, wine cellar, or country house interior. Beautifully weathered throughout with an untouched patina consistent with age and use.
