PAIR 19TH CENTURY FRENCH PORAILLY & CHARLIONNAIS QUATREFOIL LOW TABLES -CURRENTLY RESERVED-

Each retaining the original foundry stamps cast into the iron feet. The tables stand on finely modelled cast iron tripod bases with deeply scrolled feet and fluted central columns, reflecting the Louis XV Revival taste that characterised much French café and salon furniture of the Belle Époque period. The feet are clearly stamped “POURAILLY” and “CHARLIONNAIS”, confirming their manufacture by the noted French supplier of café and terrace furnishings active during the late 19th Century. 

Each table is surmounted by an unusual quatrefoil-shaped marble top enclosed within a hand-formed brass surround — both a refined decorative detail and a practical protection for the marble edge. While marble café tables of the period were typically circular, the shaped tops and brass edging represent a rarer and more decorative variation of the traditional Parisian guéridon form. Particularly notable is their unusual low height of only 46 cm, suggesting use within a salon, hôtel particulier, or grand hotel terrace rather than as conventional café dining tables. Their proportions translate exceptionally well to modern interiors as occasional or low coffee tables. Combining sculptural cast ironwork with elegant marble surfaces, these tables beautifully capture the atmosphere of Belle Époque café culture, when Parisian terraces and grand hotels favoured furnishings that were both durable and richly decorative. 

Both tables remain in excellent antique condition, with an attractive aged patina to the iron bases, light age-related wear to the marble, and the original brass surrounds intact.
