A striking Mid-Century French Neo-Classical curule stool.

Constructed in wrought iron with an elegant X-frame base, the stool is decorated with solid cast swan-head terminals, paw feet and cast collar mounts, all retaining a silvered finish that contrasts beautifully with the black iron frame. Inspired by Empire and Directoire designs, the restrained ornament and sculptural silhouette are reminiscent of the work of Maison Jansen and the sophisticated decorative ironwork produced for leading French interiors during the post-war period.

The shaped lattice seat was designed to accommodate a loose upholstered cushion, allowing the stool to function equally well as a hall seat, dressing room stool or occasional accent piece. Circa 1950–1970.
