A large and atmospheric mid-20th Century French Aubusson tapestry entitled Soleil d’Or, designed by Thérèse Le Guen and woven by the renowned Robert Four workshops. Circa 1970.
Rendered in a nuanced palette of warm ochres, stone, charcoal, blush pink and muted sage, the abstract composition centres on a radiant solar form amidst an evocative landscape of vertical organic motifs and painterly linear elements. Strongly reflective of the post-Lurçat revival of modern French tapestry, the work combines artistic abstraction with the rich texture and tonal depth characteristic of Aubusson weaving of the period.
Woven in wool and signed ‘Le Guen’ within the weave to the lower edge. Retaining its later backing cloth. A highly decorative large-scale textile artwork with excellent presence.
