Rare late 19th Century French wrought iron hearth boot and shoe drying rack.

With hound-head finials and paw feet, Circa 1880–1910. Of exceptional sculptural form, retaining its original naturally aged surface and rich iron patina. The slatted structure is flanked by finely worked scrolling supports and surmounted by wonderfully cast hound-head finials holding iron rings, all raised on expressive paw feet. Likely commissioned for a country house or hunting lodge, the piece would have been positioned beside the fireplace for the drying and warming of riding boots and shoes after the hunt. Both highly functional and deeply decorative, it embodies the rustic sophistication associated with French sporting interiors of the period.

A rare and characterful example of French artisan ironwork, combining strong architectural presence with whimsical animalier detailing.
