18TH CENTURY FRENCH OIL ON CANVAS TAPESTRY CARTOON -CURRENTLY RESERVED-

Beautiful, 18th century oil on canvas painting of a hound by a stone fountain in a country landscape. To the rear is a view of a country house. 

This charming French tapestry cartoon has been conserved, stabilised and relined. It is presented in a simple wooden frame, backed, and protected behind plexiglas. We wanted to maintain its fragile beauty and atmosphere without over restoration.

Tapestry Cartoon: Historically, weavers worked while facing what would be the back of the tapestry. They copied with their colored weft threads the tapestry's design. The design, referred to as the "cartoon," took the form of a painting on cloth or paper, the same size as the planned tapestry.
