Substantial French butcher's block (billot de boucher) dating from the early 20th Century.

The hardwood chopping surface top is beautifully worn with deep, honest wear acquired through decades of use. The block is raised on turned fluted legs with a shaped apron and fitted with a single drawer retaining its original iron handle. To the rear is a decoratively shaped and carved backboard embellished with an iron boars head and a knife slot. Iron corner straps.

Originally made for use in a French boucherie, this exceptional piece now offers striking presence in kitchen interiors. Circa 1900-1920.
