20TH CENTURY OIL ON CANVAS PAINTING 'NUDE WITH MUSIC' BY M.CHEMIN

An atmospheric and expressive interior scene by the French painter Michel Chemin, dated 1985 and titled Nu en Musique ('Nude with Music'). 

The composition depicts a seated nude model within an artist’s studio, surrounded by canvases, musical instruments and musicians, rendered in a loose and luminous painterly manner. Chemin employs a rich impasto technique with fluid brushwork and subtle tonal transitions, combining elements of realism and impressionism. Warm ochres and soft flesh tones contrast with cooler blues and greys, creating a harmonious and intimate atmosphere. The layered composition — with easels, framed works and instruments interwoven throughout the scene — gives the painting depth and movement while evoking the creative energy of the atelier. 

Born and raised in Northern France, Michel Chemin developed an early passion for painting and became known for his sensitive handling of light, colour and composition. His work often captures fleeting moments with emotional depth and painterly spontaneity, balancing observational realism with an impressionistic softness. Chemin has exhibited internationally, where his paintings have been appreciated for both their technical confidence and evocative atmosphere.
