French silver plated Surtout de Table, Circa 1895-1915 Victor Saglier [1880-1920], Paris.
An elegant Belle Époque silver-plated surtout de table (mirrored centrepiece) by the renowned Parisian silversmith Victor Saglier. Of beautifully shaped outline, the piece is centred by a bevelled mirrored plateau within a silver-plated gallery, designed to reflect candlelight and enhance table displays. Raised on discreet adjustable feet with a wooden underside and bearing the maker’s mark for Victor Saglier, Paris, the design reflects the refined craftsmanship and restrained decorative language associated with the finest French table silver of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries.
Originally intended as a centrepiece for formal dining tables, the mirrored surface would have displayed candelabra, flowers or ornamental objects, amplifying light and creating a sense of depth and elegance. A refined and highly decorative piece that functions equally well today as a table centrepiece, display tray or mirrored plateau. In good antique condition with wear commensurate with age and use. The original mirror with expected minor foxing.
This stunning piece will bring great decorative flair to a dining, coffee or console table.
