An unusual and highly decorative French Napoleon III pedestal stand in black lacquered tôle peinte, dating to the late 19th century.

Exceptionally tall and elegant in form, the circular top is framed by an ornate pierced brass gallery with scrolling foliate decoration, raised on three long tapering legs joined by gothic-inspired brackets and a shaped triangular undertier. The dramatic proportions and refined silhouette give the piece a strikingly architectural quality, while the restrained black and gilt palette lends it a surprisingly modern decorative presence. Subtle hand-painted decoration remains visible to the undertier, adding warmth and character to the surface.

Far less commonly encountered than standard Napoleon III jardinières or pedestals, this is a particularly sculptural example, ideal as a plant stand, torchère, or display pedestal for ceramics or sculpture. The piece shows minor historic restoration to the underside of the top, consistent with age and use. Circa 1880. Diameter of the top is 25cm.
