The artist has signed Le Poittevin to the lower right corner. To the back is a label with the inscription 'Valet de Chiens' Le Poittevin (Eugène Modeste Edmond) 1806-1870. Ecole Francaise. Musée de Dijon

Eugène Le Poittevin or Lepoitevin or Lepoittevin was the pseudonym of Eugène Modeste Edmond Poidevin, born on July 31 1806 in Paris and died on August 6 1870 in Paris.
