About the Artist: Born November 16, 1902 in Le Havre, Louise Jeanne Aline Cottard-Fossey née Cottard (1902-1983) was post-impressionist painter of the French School. A student at the School of Fine Arts in Le Havre, then at the School of Decorative Arts in Paris, she subsequently received advice from the expressionist painter Othon Friesz at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris. A painter of prtraits, nudes, still lifes, and landscapes, she exhibited at the Salon des artistes Français in 1930. In 1930, she collaborated with the Théâtre Classique, a Le Havre troupe. She notably illustrated the books Faces of Provence (Paris, 1950), Faces and Colors of Mauritius, De Schaduw en de maagd (1971).  A painting entitled "Still life with flowers" is in the collections of the City of Paris, loaned in 1962 to the National Institute of Sport. Her work is present in various museums: André Malraux Museum (Le Havre), Museum of Modern Art (Paris). Reference: Bénézit.
