Charming series of four coloured engravings illustrating the Four Seasons.

These delightful French engravings date to the first half of the 19th century. Each depicts a different season with wonderful illustrations and romantic verse.

They retain their beautiful colours while showing some expected signs of wear [see photos]

Below are translations of the poetic verse for each season from the French:

Spring. The graceful peaks on the wings of the zephyrs return to pierce our fields. Pretty Bachelette. Go seek games and pleasures again and frolic gaily on the flowery grass. Summer Escape the rays of the new dawn, the active Harvester regenerates his fields. And the pale Phebeels evening finds him still bent beneath ears of corn in the midst of Ceres Autumn The god of harvesters makes Autumn smile. He awakens, he puts to sleep, he intoxicates at the same time. Carefully gather the treasures of Pomona. And happily dream of the need for cold weather. Winter Sweeping the snow and icicles from his roof. Complaining about the harshness of a severe frost, the countryman gathers his embers at home. And gathers his eager family around the fire.
