Pair of tall French oak ornately carved armchairs in the Neo-Gothique style. The curved arms terminate with hooded heads The backs are richly carved with Gothic motifs and columns. They each bear cross stretchers.

The comfortable seats are upholstered in embossed Cardova leather and large decorative studding.

These highly decorative armchairs are known as Fauteils Caquetoire. The caquetoire appeared in France during the Renaissance, in the second half of the 16th century. It was a chair used by women of status to chat with each other. The trapezoidal seat, wide at the front and the open arched arms allowed them to sit with their virtuegadin [crinoline] skirts
