Beautiful marble sculpture of a young woman, presented on an ebonised wooden socle. Signed L.Madrassi. Luca Madrassiwas a French sculptor of Italian origin of the 19th century. Born on the 8 June 1848 in Tricesimo, Italy, and died April 7, 1919, in Paris. He began his artistic studies in Rome before studying at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, under the tuition of Pierre-Jules Cavelier.He then joined the renown Carrier-Belleuse studio. Between 1876 & 1880, Madrassi was apractioner of Gustave Doré. This explains the analogies between the works of Carrier-Belleuse and Doré. He exhibited at the Salon of the Society of French Artists in Paris from 1879. While there, he gained several honorable mentions [1881, 1882, 1883, & 1885] as well as a third class medal in1896. Madrassi obtained French nationality and became a member of the Societé des Artistes Française in 1890. He also exhibited at the Salon of the National Society of Fine Arts in 1896. His works are, mainly, busts, statuettes and allegorical subjects.
