Beautiful painted marriage coffer. The domed lid is decorated with a crowned eagle,drapes and floral motifs. To the front is a bird with a tulip in its beak and floral and foliate decorative motifs. Floral & foliate decoration. to the sides.

The crowned golden eagle against a blue background is a symbol of the First Empire (1804-1815). With its talons clutching a thunderbolt.

A traditional piece from Normandy, that dates to the early 19th century.
